We Remember Them   Leave a comment

In the rising of the sun and in its going down,
we remember them.
In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter, we remember them.
In the opening of buds and in the rebirth of spring, we remember them.
In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer, we remember them.
In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them.
In the beginning of the year and when it ends,
we remember them.
When we are weary and in need of strength,
When we are lost and sick at heart,
When we have joys we yearn to share,
we remember them.
So as long as we live, they too shall live,
For they are now a part of us as we remember them.

Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” – Spain   Leave a comment

“Flashmob performances haven’t been a fresh concept for some time. And they’ve been somewhat taken over by corporations during recent years. But that doesn’t stop viewers from enjoying the performances, whether in person or on the web. Take this recent example orchestrated by the financially-challenged Spanish bank, Banco Sabadell.

“Earlier this summer, the bank brought together 100 musicians and singers from the Orchestra Simfonica del Valles,Amics de l’Opera de Sabadell,Coral Belles Arts, and Cor Lieder Camera to perform the anthem of the European Union — Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” from his Symphony No. 9. It all happens in the Plaça de Sant Roc in Sabadell, Spain, a little north of Barcelona. Perhaps this will put a smile on your face. Maybe you’ll even shed a tear. One way or another, make sure you turn up your speakers….

BREATH ON ME, BREATH OF GOD   Leave a comment

BREATH ON ME, BREATH OF GOD
by Edwin Hatch, 1879, Public Domain

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Fill me with life anew, That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do and to endure.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
Blend all my soul with Thine,
Until this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.

Breathe on me, breath of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity.

The Lord Hears the Cry of the Poor   Leave a comment

THE LORD HEARS THE CRY OF THE POOR

By John Foley, SJ

The Lord hears the cry of the poor.
Blessed be the Lord.
I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise ever in my mouth.
Let my soul glory in the Lord,
who will hear the cry of the poor.
Let the lowly hear and be glad,
the Lord listens to their pleas;
and to hearts broken God is near,
who will hear the cry of the poor.
Ev’ry spirit crushed, God will save;
will be ransom for their lives;
will be safe shelter for their fears,
and will hear the cry of the poor.
We proclaim your greatness, oh God,
your praise ever in our mouth;
every face brightened in your light,
for you hear the cry of the poor.
