Expands His Being   Leave a comment

tee-grand-mosque-oman-2016

All beings
are words  of God,
His music, His  art.

Sacred books we are,
for the infinite camps in our souls.
Every act reveals God and expands His Being.
I know that may be hard to comprehend.

All creatures are doing their best
to help God in His birth of Himself.

Enough talk for the night.
He is labouring in me;

I need to be silent for a while,
worlds are forming in my heart.

An Insidious Idol   Leave a comment

wealth and riches

Commerce is supported by keeping the individual at odds with himself and others, by making us want more than we need, and offering credit to buy what refined senses do not want. The masses become shackled; I see how their eyes weep and are desperate – of course they feel desperate – for something some remedy that a poor soul then feels needs to be bought.Meister Eckhart – written 700 years ago

As long as we look for some kind of pay for what we do, as long as we want to get something from God in some kind of exchange, we are like the merchants. If you want to be rid of the commercial spirit, then by all means do all you can in the way of good works, but do so solely for the praise of God. Live as if you did not exist. Expect and ask nothing in return. Then the merchant inside you will be driven out of the temple God has made. Then God alone dwells there. See! This is how the temple is cleared: when a person thinks only of God and honors him alone. Only such a person is free and genuine. ~Meister Eckhart

When I was In the Forest   Leave a comment

Debra walking Bailey Woods 4-16

Bailey Woods, Oxford, MS

When I was the stream, when I was the
forest, when I was still the field,
when I was every hoof, foot,
fin and wing, when I
was the sky
itself,

no one ever asked me did I have a purpose, no one ever
wondered was there anything I might need,
for there was nothing
I could not
love.

It was when I left all we once were that
the agony began, the fear and questions came,
and I wept, I wept. And tears
I had never known
before.

So I returned to the river, I returned to
the mountains. I asked for their hand in marriage again,
I begged – I begged to wed every object
and creature,

and when they accepted,
God was ever present in my arms.
And He did not say,
“Where have you
been?”

For then I knew my soul – every soul
has always held
Him.

The Hope of Loving   Leave a comment

Tree
What keeps us alive, what allows us to endure?
I think it is the hope of loving,
or being loved.

I heard a fable once about the sun going on a journey
to find its source, and how the moon wept
without her lover’s
warm gaze.

We weep when light does not reach our hearts. We wither
like fields if someone close
does not rain their
kindness
upon
us.
